A modern retelling of the German fairytale "Tristan and Isolde", Tris and Izzie is about a young witch named Izzie who is dating Mark King, the captain of the basketball team and thinks her life is going swimmingly well. Until -- she makes a love potion for her best friend Brangane and then ends up taking it herself accidentally, and falling in love with Tristan, the new guy at school. - Good Reads

I love Tristan and Isolde, so I was very interested to read this modern adaption which includes magic. Unfortunately I did not enjoy it as much as I thought I would. It felt immature and I had a difficult time relating to Izzie and her best friend Brangane. I think this story could have been done a little better, because in theory it was interesting, but the characters are what ruined it all for me. Izzie was very stuck-up and unlikeable. Her friend Brangane was a horrible friend. The cover is absolutely gorgeous. But I had a difficult time finishing this book. I can say that I do think that some younger readers might enjoy this book, preteens in particular.

  1. That's disappointing. I'm a big fan of the Tristan and Isolde myth as well and I'd love to read a great retelling, but I haven't been seeing good reviews for this one. Shame.

  2. @TG I am too, I think that was what disappointed me most about the book. I guess it was a little too immature for my tastes and at the end of the day really didn't represent Tristan and Isolde much at all! Other than their names, but Tristan's name wasn't really Tristan anyway. :O
