My life had always been blissfully, wonderfully normal. But it only took one moment to change everything. Suddenly, my sister, Georgia, and I were orphans. We put our lives into storage and moved to Paris to live with my grandparents. And I knew my shattered heart, my shattered life, would never feel normal again. Then I met Vincent. Mysterious, sexy, and unnervingly charming, Vincent Delacroix appeared out of nowhere and swept me off my feet. Just like that, I was in danger of losing my heart all over again. But I was ready to let it happen. Of course, nothing is ever that easy. Because Vincent is no normal human. He has a terrifying destiny, one that puts his life at risk every day. He also has enemies . . . immortal, murderous enemies who are determined to destroy him and all of his kind. While I'm fighting to piece together the remnants of my life, can I risk putting my heart—as well as my life and my family's—in jeopardy for a chance at love? - Good Reads
Die For Me is basically the typical Young Adult paranormal romance, but the paranormal aspect has a very interesting and unique twist. Revenants, you guys! Which in Die For Me is something like a sexymygutsaren'thangingoutandIwon'teatyourfaceoff zombie. The romance in the book wasn't exactly mind blowing though. I did get the butterflies on occasion, but towards the end it felt like it escalated and I was left wondering when they got so incredibly close. And one thing happened that threw me off and really bothers me when authors do it: I love bad boys or the strong and silent type. Yep, I sure do. Stereotypical, overused in literature, no problem! Liza + Bad Boy = Moth to a flame! But what really bothers me is that I need to SEE in action that he's what someone says he is. It doesn't work if the character just says "Oh he looks so bad assssssssssss in his leather jacket" or whatever the case may be. I'm not saying he has to be a total jackass, but there has to be more of something there besides a "rough look". Unfortunately in Die For Me Vincent was presented in that sort of manner by the main character Kate and so it did knock it down a few notches for me.
But despite those complaints I'm definitely glad I read this. The supporting cast and storylines kept me interested and my eyes glued to the pages and I really can't wait to see what happens in the next book Until I Die!

I love the cover, but I never did like zombies much. I think if I had to say the type of guy that '=moth to the flame' for me would have be a a guy who is maybe silent around most people but with close friends is more open and not shy.
ReplyDelete@evermore1girl Yeah, I'm not into zombies much myself - this book feels more like they're ghosts that classic zombies though. Oooh, I love those types too! I think that would be my favourite kind! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting! <3
Weaaaaah 3/5? I was hoping this one would be a lot better, I have such high expectations! I'm still excited to read it, but I'll probably put if off now :( Great review!

I'm with you - I'm a fan of showing, not telling. I'm excited to read this book...one of these days! I love the idea of revenants - something different in YA!
ReplyDeleteMolli @ Once Upon a Prologue
Too bad the romance didn't provide more butterflies - there's nothing quite like that little skip of the heart when the romance is *just right*, is there?
ReplyDeleteLooks interesting, but I like my undead creatures on the dark and evil side, so might skip this one. Not sure yet...
I'm so hesitant to start this one.... But I really do want to read it! *sigh*
ReplyDeleteI really need to read this one after hearing so many things about it, but I'm quite afraid to not like it so much. I'm sorry it didn't blow your mind away, I hope it will be the case with the sequel. thanks for the review
ReplyDeleteI've really wanted to read this one. I'm sad that you didn't love it. I'll still read it, though. Great review!
ReplyDelete@Anna Well, I was really stuck between 3 or 4. REALLY! It was a tough choice. I'd definitely still recommend reading it though!
ReplyDelete@Giselle Yessss, I'm a cover whore too! :D
@Molli Yep! It always bothers me with the telling and not showing. :/ I always love to see some new twist in paranormal book. I love my vampires and all, but it's always good to see something new!
@BJ No, there isn't! :) Ah, yeah, these ones are definitely not dark and evil!
@Bookish Brunette I was wondering about if you had read this or want to - I know you love zombies, but wasn't sure what you'd think of this twist! :)
@Molly I felt the same exact way. I'm not quite sure if zombies are my thing. Luckily the zombies in this book are not gross or the typical Hollywoodish zombie. They're good and not disgusting! So that helped! ;)
@Melliane Hopefully! :) It was still a good read though and I'm glad I finally read it!
@Andrea Yes, you should definitely still read it! Like I told Anna, I was really stuck between giving it a 3 or a 4! It was good, but there were parts that I found lacking. But it's still definitely something I'd recommend!
