Follow Me Friday

I'm new to Follow Me Friday! Go join in at Parajunkee!

The question this week is......

Q. Talk about the book that most changed or influenced your life (was it a book that turned you from an average to avid reader, did it help you deal with a particularly difficult situation, does it bring you comfort every time you read it?).

I started reading from a young age and I've always loved to read. I started out with The Berenstain Bears and Amelia Bedelia. I still love those books and now I read them to my daughter. But....
My Mother bought me a copy of this book when I was little. It was one of my first chapter books and I loved it, the entire series and the world of Avonlea. It was and still is one of the loves of my life. I recently re-read the books and I still love them to pieces. I was also obsessed with the show Road to Avonlea. I still love that show and whenever I watch the opening credits I feel such nostalgia that it brings me to tears! I also feel that way when I read Anne of Green Gables. I really, really hope my daughter will someday enjoy that world as much I did.

After writing this though, I thought of another book or author in my case that influenced me greatly. JUDY BLUME. I idolized her from my preteens into my teens. As I eagerly anticipated my period and wondered about love and what it was like to be kissed I devoured her books over and over and over and over finding comfort and inspiration in them. When I first got the internet and learned about e-mailing I found her website and e-mailed her telling her how much I loved her and her how I loved to write and... she E-MAILED BACK. JUDY BLUME E-MAILED ME BACK! I was over the moon. That stayed with me for a long time. And I'd still read Just As Long As We're Together and Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret.
The copy of Just As Long As We're Together in the picture above is the exact same one I had too!

  11. Thanks for stopping by my blog! I'm following you too! I think it's so awesome when the authors we love reply back to us, I've seen that on several other blogs today too - and had it happen to me as well, it just makes you feel so awesome to know they appreciate their readers as much as we love the books they write.

I like Judy Blume, I can't remember what book I read of hers though? I've never been one to read the classics, only for school, so I never read Anne of Green Gables, although my mom really likes it and tried to get me interested - I'm a mystery/thriller chic through and through! :D

I see your new to the book blogging world, so welcome! Hope you love it as much as I do!

    All the best!

  12. Hey! I'm a new follower. :D

My answer was Harry Potter actually! Pretty sure I'm not the only one though. I grew up with him and he helped me both with reading habits and rougher times in real life.

Happy weekend! My answer can be found here!

  13. Hopping through. So cool that Judy e-mailed you back! What year was that? So Long As We're Together is one of my favorite books. I've read it countless times. And that's the cover that I have. I think it's better than later covers.

  15. Thanks for the comments everyone! :)

Fireflywishes - Thank you for the lovely comment! I am new and I really like it - I honestly didn't realize that there was just a big blogging community out there! It's exciting! Which author wrote you back? :D

Rebecca - Harry Potter was close on my list! Such an inspirational and comforting series!

Alison Can Read - I think it must have been in about 1999-2001. I would have been about 14-16 at the time. Yeah, I've read it so many times! I need a new copy - when I moved out at 18 my Mom moved not too long after and a lot of my books weren't taken along and that was one of them unfortunately!

  18. Thanks for stopping by my blog. Following you back!

I'm a huge fan of Ms Blume, too and that's a great story about the emails. I would've been over the moon! Just as Long as We're Together was a huge favourite of mine and sometimes the whole Stephanie/Alison/Rachel fight just flashes through my mind when I'm trying on jeans.

  20. Hi, I'm just stopping by to say thanks for following my blog and that I'm following you back now.

I've not read Anne of Green Gables, it's on my TBR, I spent most of my childhood rereading The Secret Garden lol. I never read Judy Blume either.

On a completely unrelated note, it's so cool that you're reading Guardian of the Gate, I loved that book. I'm actually reading Circle of Fire right now which is the final book in the trilogy.

  21. CharmaineElaine: Thank you for stopping by and saying hello!

I loved The Secret Garden as well! I haven't read it in ages though. I started it when I first got my Kindle and found it for free, but then I got busy with something else. One of these days I want to re-read it.

I just finished Guardian of the Gate this morning! I just posted a review! I really ended up liking it! I can't wait to read Circle of Fire!!!!!! How is it so far?
